In collaboration with IHC (International Humanitarian City) and UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees), the event was attended by CFD students and faculty and members of UNHCR and CFD with judges from Runway Dubai and Future Fashion ME.

The students showcased bag creations made out of upcycled refugee tent material. Upcycling is a form of recycling but the distinction is the way waste is used. Upcycling adds value to the waste material and takes less energy to process. Designs created by CFD students on the day were judged by Ola Anan from UNHCR, Ayesha Siddequa from Future Fashion ME and Mode Omonze from Runway Dubai.

Amira Said and Sherifat Abubaker, students at CFD, were the joint winners of the design competition and won a scholarship at NRS International, an industry leader in manufacturing, developing and supplying core relief items for the humanitarian sector, to work in conjunction with their design team and develop sustainable items for refugee camps.
